How to Make the School Year Easier- Back to School Home Organization

Going back to school can be a stressful time not only for kids, but for you parents out there too. I completely understand your disappointment of school supply commercials in July and realization that a single summer reading book has not been read. I get it, I really do. Back to school means schedules, homework, projects, practices, rehearsals, and CONSTANTS STRESS. However, I am hear to help relieve some of your stress and worries about the impending school year. It is important to have everything in order at home to make the school year easier on yourself and your kids.

LUNCHES

You don't want to be the parent that always has their kids buy their lunch but you also aren't the parent who has endless hours of free time to cook your kid a gourmet lunch everyday of the week. So, here some of my tips to help make your kid's lunch game strong and healthy all at once.

1. Meal Prep, Meal Prep, Meal Prep!

No your child is not a body builder or health enthusiast where they need to have their meals perfectly measured out, packed, and placed in the freezer ready to go but it is important to have their lunches planned out. So, my advice is go grocery shopping over the weekend and prepare little "to go" bags that easy for your kids to grab and toss in their lunches themselves. For example, say you buy carrots, place them in little snack bags for each day of the week and then toss them in the fridge. You're done! All you kid has to do is grab it and pack it themselves. This makes for easier mornings and you will get out of the door much faster!

TAKE 2 TIP: Use cute baskets and labels for the pantry snacks (chips, pretzels, nuts, etc.) Also buy in bulk from a place like Cotsco or Sam's Club so you get your money's worth.

CLOTHES

My biggest tip for this topic and plan ahead! When I was in school I always had a uniform, so I never knew what it was like to have to rush and put an outfit together every morning. One thing I can tell you though is that having a set thing to wear everyday was definitely easier and gave me more time in the morning. It was stress free knowing that I already had my set clothes and I could just put them on and go. No fuss! However, if you go to a school with no uniform, it definitely is harder and more time consuming to get dressed in the mornings. I suggest to set aside some time on the weekend before Monday and plan out outfits for the week. They can just be hung in the closet together or you can create a storage system similar to the one pictured to the right for an easy grab and go.

STUDY SPACE

It is important to create a separate space to be productive. A study space should not be a bed or the kitchen table because these spaces should be reserved for their intended uses, sleeping and eating. Creating a space that is just for school work is very important in order to be productive because it tells your mind that it is time to work and get stuff done when you are in this space.

For kids, try to make the space colorful and fun! Get fun school supplies and post it notes. When I was in elementary and middle school, my mom had created a little homework space for my brother and I. We had a copious amount of fun colored pens and paper to make homework/ studying fun! We created bulletin boards with fun pictures and space to post important notes/ to-do lists. It really helped us stay organized, focused, and motivated!

TAKE 2 TIP: In & Out Important Papers- This has to be my favorite tip of all! I wish that I would have thought of this when I was in school. Create a system for papers/ forms that need to be signed. This can also be used for flyers that the kids are sent home with and nothing will get lost or misplaced! This is honestly a magical creating and I am obsessed with how efficient this idea is!
